Facing

by Golda Grais

death, my old friend
my lover. Your face is still an
enigma. I greet you with
a satisfied hunger.

I cherish you in rot and cold,
cave in to your presence, your
fingers of bone.

You have clutched at me before when
I still knew to fight you.
Where has my spirit gone
that I now embrace you
in its place?
